How to Prepare for Your 2026 Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial (Expert Guide for Brides)

To our beautiful brides 🤍

Your bridal trial is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning — it’s where your vision truly comes to life. At Ivett Beauty Co., we want you to feel confident, prepared, and fully supported walking into your appointment.

This updated 2026 Bridal Trial Prep Guide will walk you through exactly how to prepare for your hair and makeup trial so you get the most out of your experience.

Bridal Hair Trial Preparation Tips (2026 Edition)

1. Wash Your Hair the Right Way

For best results, wash your hair the day or night before your trial — not the morning of.

Freshly washed hair can be overly soft and slippery, making it harder for curls or updos to hold (even with product). Slightly “lived-in” hair creates the perfect foundation for long-lasting bridal styles.

2. Arrive with Smooth, Dry Hair

If your hair is naturally curly or wavy and you’re planning a sleek or soft glam style, please arrive with your hair blow-dried smooth or lightly flat-ironed.

If you’re embracing your natural curls for your wedding day — come exactly as you are! We love working with natural texture.

Pro tip for 2026 brides:
Adding a light volumizing mousse or texture spray before blow-drying can help create the ideal working base for your stylist.

3. Choose Realistic Inspiration Photos
When gathering inspiration from Pinterest or Instagram, look for:
-Similar hair length
-Similar density (fine vs. thick)
-Similar color
-Similar texture

Many bridal photos online feature hair extensions or are styled shoots (not real wedding days). We’ll always be honest about what’s achievable and may recommend extensions if needed to create fullness or structure.

4. Bring Extensions (If You Plan to Wear Them)

If you already own clip-in extensions, bring them to your trial.

If you don’t have them yet but want extra fullness or length, we may recommend purchasing them before the wedding day to elevate your look. Let us know if you need recommendations.

Please note: We do not provide extensions.
Adding an extension to the hair will incur an extra fee of $30 on the trial day, and on the wedding day.

5. Bring Your Hair Accessories

If you’ve purchased or are considering:

  • Veil
  • Hair comb
  • Headband
  • Crown
  • Fresh florals
  • Hair pins

Bring them! Seeing the full picture helps us balance placement, volume, and structure correctly.

6. Come Open-Minded

Sometimes the hairstyle you saved doesn’t fully complement your hair type, face shape, or dress neckline. Trust the professional guidance — small adjustments often create a more elevated, timeless bridal look.

Bridal Makeup Trial Preparation (Updated for 2026 Brides)

1. Arrive With Clean, Prepped Skin

On the morning of your trial:

  • Cleanse your face
  • Apply your regular skincare (moisturizer + SPF )
  • Do NOT wear makeup

We carry a fully professional makeup kit suitable for all skin types and tones. If you have allergies or a specific product you know works for you (for example, mascara), feel free to bring it.

2. Wear a White or Similar-Colored Top

Wearing white, ivory, or a similar tone to your wedding dress helps you visualize the full bridal effect.

If your dress has sleeves, a high neckline, or a dramatic cut, consider wearing something similar to see how the overall look balances.

3. Limit Inspiration Photos to 1–3 Looks

Instead of saving 25 photos, choose 1–3 that truly represent your desired look.

When selecting inspiration:

  • Look for similar skin tone
  • Similar eye shape
  • Similar hair color
  • Similar overall vibe (soft glam, natural, full glam, editorial, etc.)

It’s completely okay to love the eyes from one photo and the lips from another — we’ll customize your bridal makeup to fit you.

4. Bring a Photo of Your Wedding Dress

This is one of the most important steps. Your dress neckline, fabric, beading, and overall aesthetic directly influence your bridal beauty look.

Romantic lace gown?
Structured satin?
Modern minimalist silhouette?

Each calls for slightly different hair and makeup styling.

5. Spray Tan Timing
If you plan to have a spray tan for your wedding, schedule your spray tan 2 days before your bridal trial.
This ensures we color-match your foundation properly and test the full wedding-day complexion.

5. Lash Lift vs. False Lashes

If you’re planning to wear false lashes on your wedding day, we do not recommend getting a lash lift before your bridal trial or wedding day.

A lash lift curls your natural lashes upward, which can make it difficult to properly place and blend strip lashes or individual lashes. This can affect:

  • Lash placement precision
  • Comfort
  • Longevity
  • The seamless look of your bridal eye makeup

If you love the look of lifted lashes but still want added fullness, we can customize lightweight individual lashes that complement your natural shape beautifully — without compromising application.

If you’re unsure which option is best for your bridal look, we’re happy to guide you during your trial.

How to Prepare Your Skin Months Before the Trial

For best makeup results in 2026:

  • Start consistent skincare 6-8 months before your wedding
  • Avoid trying new aggressive treatments within 2–3 weeks of your trial
  • Stay hydrated
  • Schedule facials at least 7 days before the trial
  • If you need help on how to prep your skin leading up to your wedding day, make sure to read our blogpost HERE. 🙂
